🌿Vertical Farming Weekly - April 18, 2023

Hello VFW Readers!

Harry here 👋

As you may have noticed, we’ve been on hold for a few weeks as our previous editor Noah has had to move on. Super grateful for all his help in keeping you updated with all the goings-on in the world of CEA.

If you know of anyone interested in helping out with this newsletter, please reply and let us know!

We’ll get caught up with our regularly scheduled CEA news next week, but wanted to update you on what’s new in our world.

Season 8 Kicks Off

We’re super grateful to be partnering again with the Cultivatd team on the launch of Season 8. We have not only one, but two episodes which have dropped.

Sonia Lo, CEO of Unfold, shares her insights on the latest developments in indoor farming, including the role of genetics in improving crop yield and taste. We also discuss the importance of profitability for the industry's scalability and the potential of next-generation agriculture. Sonia’s background in law, management consulting, investment banking provides a unique perspective on entrepreneurship and investment in the agriculture industry. You’ll be inspired by her passion for delicious food and diversity in the investment process.

In this episode, Eric returns for Round 3 to share his journey of being a former gamer and professional player and the twists and turns that led him to the world of vertical farming. Eric emphasizes the importance of hyper-local food and why he’s excited about the potential for new crops like mushrooms to play an important part of in the future of indoor grown. Eric also highlights the significance of reflecting on one's goals and values, pivoting business models, and building a culture that values respect and flexibility. Cultivatd's unorthodox hiring process and emphasis on creating a culture of respect and flexibility make it a leader in sustainable and innovative business practices for a brighter future for the food industry.
