"The convergence of emerging technologies and the growing demand for sustainable, locally sourced food will drive significant breakthroughs," Raziel explains. As innovations enhance efficiency and economic viability, the industry is expected to gain broader adoption, establishing a stronger foothold in global food production systems.

A notable factor influencing this growth is the drop in energy prices in developed regions, particularly in electricity. This shift, coupled with the increasing impact of climate change on traditional agriculture, positions vertical farming as a resilient and sustainable solution. "The worsening effects of climate change, such as extreme weather events, are disrupting outdoor farming. This creates a pressing need for local, climate-resilient food production," Raziel adds. The interplay between reduced energy costs and the necessity for sustainable practices is expected to be a significant driver of growth in 2025.

While the outlook is promising, Raziel highlights a fundamental challenge for vertical farming companies—proving the economic and technological maturity of their solutions. "Companies must demonstrate that their technologies are not only practical but also reliable and scalable. Economic viability will be more attainable for medium to large projects," Raziel predicts. He envisions smaller farms thriving in isolated regions or serving research and educational needs.

Leafy greens are expected to dominate vertical farming production in 2025, driven by their quick growth cycles and strong market demand. However, Raziel is optimistic that technological advancements will enable breakthroughs in fruiting vegetables, broadening the crop portfolio of vertical farms.

Consumer demand for locally sourced, year-round produce at fixed prices is another key trend shaping the industry. "Pest-free farming will gain traction as consumers recognize its reliability over traditional organic methods," Raziel suggests. Partnerships with retailers will also play a critical role, fostering trust and ensuring consistent product delivery. "Retail collaboration will drive breakthroughs and secure the industry's growth trajectory," he adds.

Regional Hotspots and Growth Opportunities

Geographically, Raziel identifies North America (particularly the U.S. East Coast), Northern Europe, the Nordic countries, and the Gulf region as areas primed for growth. "These regions offer favorable economic conditions, infrastructure, and a strong need for sustainable food production," he explains. In Europe, decreasing energy prices and climate change pressures—such as droughts in southern Spain—are accelerating the shift towards vertical farming.

Investment and Policy: Catalysts for Expansion

Raziel anticipates increased investment in vertical farming, fueled by lower interest rates and investor confidence in advance purchase agreements (off-takes). "With the right economic conditions, larger projects will attract significant capital, driving further industry growth," he predicts.

Government policies will also shape the industry’s future. Financial support and regulatory reform are essential to fostering innovation and scaling operations. "Policymakers can unlock growth by removing barriers and incentivizing local produce," Raziel explains. Initiatives encouraging the purchase of locally grown products are expected to boost the industry and secure its long-term viability.

Looking ahead, Raziel believes that successful vertical farming companies will prioritize scalable, proven technologies with global deployment potential. "Collaboration and strong partnerships will define industry leaders," he notes. Transparency and openness will also be key, building trust across the supply chain and ensuring sustained innovation.
